Advanced Level Voice and Data Communication Cabling Systems

Prerequisite - Successful completion of Communication Cabling - Part II.

 This course is the third and fi nal part of the IBEW Communication Electrician or Senior Technician (when promoted by an employer) certification process. Participants should be thoroughly familiar with all aspects of UTP cable installation and testing procedures.

Students completing this part of the course will receive from AMP ACT an “Installing of Premises Cabling Systems” certificate. This course not only covers the application and installation procedures of a FTP LINK but also other popular cables used in data communication systems – including optical fibre. Also included in the course is an introduction to fi re stopping and the IEEE Ethernet LAN standards. The hands-on components will comprise of terminating, testing and certifying ScTP and optical fibre cables including MT-RJ connectors.

Questions addressed in this course:
● Does the bandwidth increase or decrease when using an optical
fi bre with a smaller core?
● When is an MDI-X termination required?
● What does CSMA/CD stand for?
● What is the “One Reference Jumper Method” of testing?
