Publications
The Ministry - Construction & Maintenance training document was developed by the Workplace Support Services Branch of the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU) in consultation with representatives from the industry. These Training Standards are intended to be used by the apprentice, trainers and employers as a "blueprint" for training or as a prerequisite for government accreditation/ certification.

Greenlee GT-11 Proximity Tester Training

The GT-11 training is now manditory for the completion of your contract as an apprentice. All safety courses must be current before apprentices can be raised to journeyperson status.

Course dates and availability are listed on the link below.

Accidents happen literally in a blink of an eye. Keep informed and stay alert on the job. Here are a few tips that no apprentice or journeyperson should be without.

  • Electrical Safety Code rule 2-300 to 2-306 are very clear on the fact that you cannont work on live equipment. They also are very clear on what needs to be done if you do so.
  • Occupational Health & Safety Act also states that no journeyperson shall work on live equipment unless two journeypersons are present. NOTICE it does not say "apprentice". Apprentices are NOT allowed to work on energized circuits.
  • IBEW Local 353 Collective Bargaining Agreement states that NO apprentice shall work without the supervision of a journeyperson and shall not work on any energized circuit.
