Prerequisite –Alternative Energy I or a strong background in
renewable energy
This course builds on the Alternative Energy – Level I Course.
Reacquaint yourself with the various forms of renewable energy
and how they can be used to reduce society’s carbon footprint.
Discover how to do an energy audit on your house and use it to
reduce your overall energy consumption. Learn how to design
and install grid tied and stand alone renewable energy systems.
This 10-week course is comprised of both theoretical and practical
hands-on components. Various types of renewable energy
systems will be constructed and the component efficiencies will
be tested. Emphasis will be placed on photovoltaics and wind
power. The students will learn the Ontario Electrical Safety
Code and Toronto Hydro grid tie rules. Proper installation
techniques will be demonstrated and performed. The permitting
process along with the Electrical Safety Authority approval will
be discussed. On completion of this course, the student will
have the skill and knowledge to safely install their own residential
renewable energy system. |
